Discussion, observations and notes about Swimming and Diving in and around Macomb County

WELCOME

Why do we need a Macomb County Swimming and Diving Blog?

With five divisions and 28 teams (in the MAC), it not possible for one person to keep up with the accomplishments of the athletes and the teams in Macomb County.

This brings up an additional point. I would like this blog to cover the teams that compete in Macomb County. Almost all of the Macomb County based swimming and diving teams compete in the MAC. Therefore, we will be covering some Oakland, Wayne and St Clair County teams as well. We also have De La Salle located in Macomb County, so we need to make sure they are included as well.

I am not trying strictly portray Macomb County Swimming and Diving from only my perspective. To that end, I am looking for contributors from all five Divisions and also from DLS. Even better would be a correspondent from each team that would post a recap of the previous weeks meets, outstanding practices or events.

I will also try to include links to sites that cover Macomb County and MAC sports and Athletes.

Enough for now - I have to go prepare milk and cookies for Santa (yes my boys believe in Santa) - note the first post on this Blog was Dec 24th 2007

please note: this blog has been up for over a year now, and I have never had to moderate or delete comments, until now. I will be happy to return to an uncensored forum, when some of the children that have posted recently, learn some manners.

Romeo Relays 01 18 08

It was a good night for swimming fast at the Romeo Relays.

Romeo started the night right by winning the 200 yd rookie relay with a time of 2:02.02, and things were going to get even faster. In the second event of the night, Romeo won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.21. The swim was good enough for the team of Tyler Laurain, Mike Glinski, Devon Compeau and Derek Raska to not only swim a D1 State cut time, but also set a new meet, varsity and pool record. Up next was the 400 free relay, and Romeo was at it again. This time the team of Raska, Matt Ruman, Laurain and Compeau finished in first place with a D1 state cut time of 3:25.63. This time was also a new meet, varsity and pool record. De La Salle was second in the 400 free relay with a D2 state cut of 3:31.06. Eisenhower won the 4th event, the 400 IM relay in 4:24.35. The next event was the diving relay, and the event came down to the last dive with Mike Elliott anchoring for Romeo, and Matt Ortesi carrying the weight for L'anse Cruese. Elliotts final dive, a forward 2 1/2 somersault tuck was good enough to the secure the win for the Bulldogs, 189 - 178.45. The 6th event was the 200 buttrefly relay, won by De La Salle, in a time of 1:46.83. Next was the 200 freestyle (2 rookie) relay. Utica won the event with a 1:43.12, a new meet record. The 8th event was the 500 yd decresendo relay, 200 + 150 + 100 +50, and the L'Anse Cruese Lancers won the event in a new meet record of 4:34.59. The 200 freestyle (all rookie) relay was won by Romeo, in 1:48.21. Event 10, the 200 yd backstroke relay was won by Dakota in 1:57.97. Grosse Pointe North prevailed in the 200 breaaststroke relay in a time of 2:04.57. The final event of the night was the 200 freestyle relay (open) which De La Salle won with a D2 state qualifying time, and also a new meet record of 1:34.32.
